Personal Information

I was born in Berlanga de Duero, a small town in  Soria  (Castilla y Leon, Spain).

Berlanga de Duero: This is a small picture of my hometown, a lovely and interesting Castilian village beside the river Duero . The arab castle of the 10th century was rebuilt in the Middle Ages by the Tovar family.  This is the view right from the balcony of my parents' house (photo courtesy of my dear neighbor Julian):

When I was 14, I moved to Soria to go to high school, and afterwards to Zaragoza where I started studying Physics.

After two years, I decided to continue with the traveling adventure. The final destination was Barcelona -because of the sea, I guess-. It is a great city, so I lived there for more than seven years. During that time, I finished my degree in Physics, and I got my Ph. D. in Condensed Matter Physics, after four years in the Departament de Fisica Fonamental (click if you want to know some of the people working there), Universitat de Barcelona.

A bad picture of Romu (my boyfriend) and me. We met in Barcelona at the time we both were Ph.D. students in the same Department.

Sitting like this we look like a nice couple, right?

On February 1996, I moved to Boston where I had a wonderful time working as a postdoc in the group of Mehran Kardar  at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  Click here  and you will find more bad pictures and some information about the worst friends I could ever find in the US.

After experiencing what life is like in the North American east coast and enjoying very much the international environment there, we headed back to the old Europe. We decided to learn more about life and science in a country where we could learn their language quickly enough to really enjoy the stay. And, what best than Italia!
We  arrive in Trieste (150 km east of Venice) in the Fall of 1998.  We both got postdoc positions in the Condensed Matter Group  at the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP). ICTP is in my opinion a great place to work, and people there welcome us and helped us feeling like home. [In Spanish, Trieste reminds of triste (sad). I mention that because some people will complain about the lack of action in Trieste. But there is nothing sad about Trieste, it is actually gorgeous to have the Adriatic sea  right there, waiting for you every morning in the way to work. As for the action part, you only have to want it and then discover it, or otherwise, organize it.]

TO BE CONTINUED!

             IN MY OPINION ...

In case my brief chronological succession of events does not tell enough about me, I am preparing this new section, where I mention what I like to do, to see, to listen, etc., although it may take some time.
